Chief executives want to be told how they are doing. A 2013 Stanford University survey of 200 North American CEOs found that all of them were receptive to making changes based on external feedback, but two-thirds didn’t get any feedback or advice.

The key to receiving valuable feedback is to ask for it, but there’s a fine line between receiving feedback that informs positive change, and people saying what they think you want to hear. In a one-on-one setting, here are 10 tips for getting real feedback.
